Old Town

A walk through the old town of San Mateo makes it essential to visit the Church of La Vega de San Mateo, located on the Main Street. It has a bell donated by emigrants from Cuba. The top center is crowned by a total of three bells, which was designed by José Luján Pérez. Its construction was completed in 1895.

The "Alameda Santa Ana", located next to the church was built in 1943. Currently complies with the Town Hall and the Church a set of neo-Canarian style. The "Ermita de Lourdes" has the same name as the Virgin of Lourdes and is honored each year in Vega de San Mateo.

The agricultural and handicraft market of San Mateo is one of the most traditional markets of Gran Canaria. It is held every Saturday and Sunday. One part is for agricultural products of the area, while in the other local crafts and different articles are presented.
